According to a DigiTimes report MSI will release a touch screen tablet in the second half of this year. The tablet hasn’t been named yet, but it is expected to have a starting price of $500. Interestingly, Apple’s just unveiled iPad tablet also starts at $499.
MSI showed off its 10 inch tablet at CES early this year. The device is powered by a NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset which will make it capable of handling 1080p HD video playback. Tegra 2 chipsets are also known to get excellent battery life. The MSI tablet will run Google Android. The OS doesn’t support Adobe Flash at the moment but it is working on it.
MSI will probably not want to market its tablet as a better alternative to Apple’s iPad. But comparisons are inevitable and believe it or not, the MSI tablet does have some plus points over its celebrated rival. For one thing, it is capable of handling 1080p HD video playback. The Apple tablet, we are told, can handle only 720p video. The MSI tablet will probably also be able to handle multi-tasking. And most importantly MSI has nothing against allowing Flash on its device. Still it is too early to predict that this device would be better than iPad.
