Adobe has released its Flash Player 10.1 beta 3. The new version provides hardware acceleration support for netbooks with Intel Atom Z-series processors and GMA 500 integrated graphics. So if you have a netbook with these processors you should be able to watch 720p Flash video with the latest version of Flash Player. You will be able to watch even 1080p video.
The update is not applicable to netbooks with Atom N270/N280 processors and GMA 950 graphics. This is because while the GMA 500 offers hardware acceleration for H.264 video, the GMA 950 chipset doesn’t.
Some of the laptops that may benefit from the Flash Player update include the Sony VAIO P, original Dell Inspiron Mini 10, Eee PC T91MT, Eee PC 1101HA, MSI Wind U115, Fujitsu UH900 and Viliv S10 Blade.
Flash acceleration doesn’t improve the overall performance of your computer. In fact, netbooks with Atom Z520 and Z530 processors tend to feel slower than those with Atom N270/N280 processors. The 2GHz Atom Z550 processor with GAM 500 graphics, however, is known to deliver decent performance.
