Apple iPad is set to go on sale this weekend. A number of news outlets have already published reviews of the tablet PC. Apple's tablet has invoked mixed reactions, but the majority of reviewers seem to agree that it is quite usable.
Sun Times calls iPad the first true tablet. The reviewer is mighty pleased with the device and claims that every other tablet on the market is merely a laptop with the keyboard removed. New York Times doesn't seem that much impressed with the tablet, which according to the reviewer is merely a big iPod Touch with a bad on-screen keyboard. According to TechBlog,iPad is not a PC replacement; it is an entirely new class of device with a decent on-screen keyboard. And Wall Street Journal says what some bloggers have been saying for a while. The iPad is good for surfing the web and consuming media. It can't be used for creating large documents.
Interestingly, while some reviewers found the on-screen keyboard comfortable, others simply hated it.
The iPad is powered by an A4 processor which is reportedly quite snappy making the tablet feel very responsive. And while Apple claims that the tablet will get around 10 hours of runtime, several reviewers managed to get 11 or 12 hours while playing video. But what about Flash? iPad doesn't support Flash which means that websites using Flash will not load properly on the device. But this is going to change. Many video sites have already started working on HTML5 video players that will work perfectly on iPad - no Flash required.
