Seagate has announced a 2.5 inch Solid State Hybrid Drive for notebooks. The drive called the Momentus XT combines solid state memory with traditional hard disk.
The Momentus XT spins at 7,200rpm. It has 4GB of solid state memory and features Seagate's Adaptive Memory technology to deliver what is called the world's fastest hard drive performance.
According to Seagate, when it comes to booting the operating system, the Momentus XT is “up to 100% faster” than standard 5,400rpm notebook HDDs and 'sets new benchmarks for real-world system performance for notebooks and gaming systems'. According to the press release, the new SSD/HDD hybrid will be used in Asustek´s G73 gaming notebook. No word on pricing or availability at the moment.
