Sony has, in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, issued a voluntary recall of 233,000 Sony VAIO laptops. The reason the laptops are being recalled is that they tend to overheat.
Most of the recalled notebooks belong to the VAIO F VPCF11 and VAIO C VPCCW2 Series. Sony has confirmed that it received around 30 reports regarding units that overheated resulting in damage to the keyboards and casings. No injuries have been reported so far. The recalled laptops were shipped between January 2010 and April 2010.
CPSC has also advised owners of the recalled units to visit the following link http://esupport.sony.com/US/f1cw2update for instructions on how to update the computer's BIOS firmware, which will prevent it from overheating.
