Dell has unveiled the official pricing for its Streak Android tablet. The machine will soon be available in the US. If you sign up for a 2-year service contract with AT&T, you will be able to purchase the machine at the subsidized price of $299. Without the subsidy, the price will go up to $549.
The Dell Streak is a 5 inch Android tablet that can be used for making calls. It is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Other features include a 5MP camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and a microSD card slot. It also ships with a 3G modem. At launch, the tablet will run a custom version of Android 1.6. An update to Android 2.2 Froyo is expected to be available later this year.
While $549 may seem like a lot of money,it is actually the standard price of an unsubsidized smartphone. In fact,it is about $50 less than the price of an unsubsidized iPhone 4. There is still no official word on when the tablet will actually start shipping.
