AMD TO KILL OFF THE ATI BRAND NAME

A large number of computers on the market have an AMD processor and ATI graphics. The average Joe who buys these computers isn't necessarily aware of the fact that both processors are built by the same company.

AMD acquired the graphics company ATI a few years ago but continued to release discrete graphics and processors under the ATI brand name. But now the company has decided that it is time to kill off the ATI brand name. Future graphics cards will be released under the AMD brand name and these include the upcoming Fusion chips which will integrate processor and graphics functions into a single chipset. Individual brand names like Radeon and FirePro, however, will be retained.

AMD will not rename existing chips. But in the not so distant future, you won't be able to buy a computer with an AMD processor and ATI graphics.
