HP will start selling the updated Mini 5103 business netbook on September 17th. The HP Mini 5103 is already available with your choice of an Intel Atom N455 or Atom N475 processor, but starting September 17th it will also be available with a dual core Atom N550 processor. The company claims that the new chip will get around 25% improvement in performance while at the same time reducing the battery life by 15 minutes. That isn't bad because the HP Mini class netbooks tend to offer 6+ hours of battery life.
Apart from the new processor option, there aren't a lot of differences between the new HP Mini 5103 and the old Mini 5102. The updated model will continue to have the 7200rpm hard drive or a Solid State Disk. The 10.1 inch display will be available with either 1024 x 600 or 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. A capacitive touchscreen option is also available.
The HP Mini 5103 has a magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis. The netbook will be available with Windows 7 Starter / Pro / Home Premium, SUSE Linux Enterprise 11, or FreeDOS.
