SHARP LAUNCHES GALAPAGOS ANDROID TABLETS

Sharp has introduced two new Android tablets. The company is positioning the devices as eBook readers, but with their color displays and Android OS they have specs that meet the definition of a tablet. Sharp says that the two new tablets are designed to work with the company's new eBook service.

The Sharp Galapagos tablets are due out in December. They will have access to a library of 30,000 books, newspapers and magazines at launch. One of these machines will have a 5.5 inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It will be available in red or silver colors. The other model will have a large 10.8 inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It will be available in black. Both tablets will run Google Android and will have WiFi 802.11b/g.

The Galapagos tablets are unlikely to have access to the Android market, but you will still be able to run third party applications. You will also be able to surf the web and run multimedia content. Sharp will also offer software that converts documents and other data from a PC into a format that can be viewed on tablets.
