The new device is due out next year, and unlike the original model which ran a custom Linux based operating system, the new model will run Google Android.
That means it will be able to run thousands of Android apps, although it is not clear whether it will have access to Android Market out of the box. If Fusion Garage launches the tablet after Google releases the Gingerbread or Honeycomb versions of Android, it will most likely have full access to the Android Market. The original JooJoo was essentially an internet tablet with a web browser and an onscreen keyboard. It offered little else. Worse still, the user interface was far from perfect. Still, the hardware wasn’t all that bad. JooJoo had an x86 processor which was capable of running just about every operating system. Some users actually installed Windows 7 or OS X on the tablet and made it more functional.
It is not clear whether the Android version will also be a hacker’s delight. If it still has an x86 processor, it will be very hackable. But if the company opts for an ARM-based processor, it will not be able to run Windows 7.
