While MeeGo is an independent project, it is the architecture used in other Linux distributions. So it won't be long before we see versions of Linpus, Ubuntu and other operating systems using MeeGo's UI and performance optimizations for Intel Atom and ARM-based processors.

All three versions will have the same base operating system. MeeGo 1.1 for netbooks, however, comes with a set of applications and a user interface designed for mini-laptops with 1024 x 600 pixels displays. The smartphone version of MeeGo 1.1 supports phone calls, SMS, web surfing and playing media. Although Nokia doesn't support MeeGo, the software is designed to run Nokia's N900 smartphone.
There is also a new MeeGo SDK 1.1 Beta for developers interested in writing apps for MeeGo.
