SHARP GALAPAGOS TABLETS TO DEBUT IN JAPAN ON DECEMBER 10

Sharp has announced the launch date and pricing for its upcoming Galapagos tablets in Japan. There are two machines - one sporting a 5.5 inch display and the other sporting a 10.8 inch display. Both models run Android. They will go on sale in Japan on December 10th for the local equivalent of about $480 and $650 respectively. Prices may drop when the tablets make their debut in the US.

The 10.8 inch tablet has a 1366 x 800 pixels display and a 10 hour battery. It also has WiFi 802.11b/g and an 8GB microSDHC card. The tablet weighs about 1.7 pounds.

The 5.5 inch Galapagos tablet has a 1024 x 600 pixels display, 8GB of storage, a 7 hour battery and WiFi 802.11b/g. It weighs less than half a pound.

Sharp is positioning its tablets as eBook readers, but they also feature web browsers. And since the machines run Android, they are also hackable.
