ARCHOS INTRODUCES BUDGET-FRIENDLY ARNOVA 8 AND 10 TABLETS

Archos has introduced two new budget tablets: the Archos Arnova 8 and the Archos Arnova 10. Neither is a power machine. They are, in fact, designed to be cheap tablets with decent capabilities. You can, for example, use them for surfing the web, watching videos or reading ebooks.

The Archos Arnova 10 currently has a 600MHz processor and a resistive touchscreen display. Archos will reportedly upgrade the tablet with a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor and a capacitive touchscreen display by April. That model will sell for $199 in the US. It will have a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It runs Android 2.1 and comes with 4GB or 8GB of storage. It will also support a range of video formats including H.264, MP4, MKV, MOV, WAV, MP3, FLAC, and OGG. The tablet also has a G-sensor, WiFi 802.11b/g, a USB 2.0 host port, speaker, mic, a microSD card slot and a front-facing VGA camera.

The Archos Arnova 8 has an 8 inch display with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. It will run about $150. Like the Arnovoa 10, this model too will get a 1GHz ARM-based processor and capacitive touchscreen display soon. It weighs about 1.1 pounds and has a microSD card slot, g-sensor and 4GB of storage. There is also a built-in mic and speakers.
