AT&T NOW OFFERING THE ACER ICONIA TAB A501

AT&T has started offering the Acer Iconia Tab A501 Android tablet with 4G connectivity. The Iconia Tab A501 is essentially the same as the Iconia Tab A500. It just happens to have a 4G LTE HSDPA+ modem to connect to AT&T’s 4G network. According to AT&T’s website, the 4G speeds will be available in areas like Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, San Antonio and Houston. The coverage will be available in more metropolitan areas by the end of this year.

The Iconia Tab A501 currently runs Android Honeycomb 3.0.1. It has 16GB of storage and a NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor with a clock speed of 1GHz. The contract free version of the tablet is priced at $480. If you are willing to sign up for a 2-year data plan costing a minimum of $35/month, you will be able to pick up the tablet for $330.

Meanwhile, PC Mag has posted a review of the tablet. According to the site, the 4G version gets only an average of 1.9 Mbps download and 1.2 Mbps upload speed. The 4G LTE version of Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Tab, on the other hand, gets 19Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload times.
