THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU UPDATE YOUR LAPTOP OR TABLET

Before you update your device be sure to read what the update offers. You must know what exactly the benefits of updating your device are.

If you are happy with the way the device works now, stick with your current operating system. If you are not seeking newer features, you have no reason to update. However, make sure that the device maker will continue to offer support for the OS you use. Most of them do but in case they don’t that is a valid reason to update to the most recent version of the OS.

Updates tend to work well with newer models. Older models may not have the necessary hardware to enjoy all the new features the update brings. Worse still, they may get bogged down.

Back up your data before you update. Updates usually preserve user data, but if something goes wrong during the process of updating your device, you may lose your contacts, photos and videos.

Charge your device before you start updating it or keep it plugged in. The process of updating may take a while and can drain your battery.

If warranty is important to you, get updates only from official sources. Unofficial updates can work, but bear in mind that they will void your warranty. And if things go wrong after you update the device, you won’t get any tech support.
