INTEL MEDFIELD PROCESSOR SPECS LEAKED

Intel is all set to launch its Medfield processors for tablets and smartphones. Intel has been working on the low-power system-on-a-chip platform for a while, but the company never really disclosed the actual specifications.

But now leaked specifications of the chips have hit the cyberspace. Benchmark tests done on a prototype tablet with a 1.6GHz x86 Medfield processor and 1GB of RAM shows that it is faster than the NVIDIA Tegra 2 Qualcomm Snapdragon and Samsung Exynos processor. The tablet in question had a 10 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It currently runs Android Honeycomb but is capable of running Android 4.0 as well.

The said processor consumes 2.6W of power while it is idle. Intel is reportedly trying to reduce that 2W. The Medfield processors are designed to compete with the ARM-based processors commonly found in smartphones and tablets. Intel says that these processors will be nearly as power efficient as the ARM processors but that needs to be seen.
