2ND GENERATION SAMSUNG CHROMEBOOK HAS INTEL CELERON CPU

It is not easy to find Intel Celeron-based laptops these days. In fact, none of the laptops announced since mid-2008 has an Intel Celeron processor. But that didn’t prevent Samsung from announcing one at CES last week. The second generation Series 5 Samsung Chromebook the company unveiled at CES sports an Intel Celeron processor.

The unnamed Celeron processor will replace the Atom N570 found in the original Chromebook. The Intel Celeron processors offer much better performance than Atom processors. On the flip side, they consume a lot more power too. Samsung, however, maintains that its Celeron-based second generation Chromebook will get similar battery life as the original Chromebook.

Aside from the processor, the design of the laptop too has changed a bit. The new Chromebook has a matte lid. The original had a glossy one. Other specifications remain the same. The laptop still has a 12.5 inch display, 16GB of storage, WiFi and 3G connectivity.

Pricing and availability
The second generation Samsung Series 5 Chromebook will hit the market during the second quarter of this year. The WiFi-only model will run $399. The 3G-enabled version will retail for $449.
