Acer doesn’t expect its market share to improve in the US and Europe where it is facing stiff competition from iPads and Macs. However, it is confident of doing better in the developing countries like Brazil and parts of South East Asia.
Acer has always been a company more interested in market share than in profits. The company’s netbooks are aggressively priced and often forced other PC makers to reduce their prices too. However, this strategy backfired in the last couple of years when iPad started eating into Acer’s market share. Shrinking profit margins and market share have forced Acer to turn its attention to tablets and higher-end laptops. That however, doesn’t mean that Acer is exiting the netbook space. The company will continue to build them, but they will no longer be the face of Acer.
