WHICH COMPANY HAS THE BEST LAPTOP DISPLAYS?

Color accuracy may not be your major concern if you do regular computing. But if you happen to be in the graphical field (especially photography) than you had better pay attention.

Rob Galgraith has just put together a comparison of some laptops to see which came out on top for best accuracy in color and viewing angle. Needless to say Apple was on the list. But the results were a little surprising as Apple failed to receive the award of best color accuracy. The Dell Mini 9 beat the previously named model in accuracy tests but failed to deliver the knock out punch in viewing angle.

Overall Lenovo's new W700 system took the top honors both in color accuracy and viewing angle. But we're not going to spoil anything else. So if you have some time head over to the READ link and get the full details from Rob himself.

VISTA SP2 RC MAY BE OUT BY 2Q 2009

Yeah we're well aware that the big news from Microsoft this month has been Window's 7 and all the great features that people still can't get over. But on the other hand, those of us who still have to live with Vista have been wondering if their is any form of band-aid.

Well according to ComputerWorld Microsoft is not ready to seal the lid on Vista's coffin just yet. And has been working on SP2 which the RC should be coming out within the next few days to testers of course.

As for an official release date, we're hearing that it could come out as early as 2Q 2009. Well that clears up a lot. Hopefully Window's 7 will come out before they have time to work on Vista SP3.

SONY HAS ONLY ONE CLOCK SPEED OPTION FOR US BOUND P SERIES

We're not sure what is the problem with Sony or any other Japanese maker releasing the cool upgrade options for the US. But apparently Sony does not have any plans to send us the 1.8GHz model we had heard about.

So far the only option we have for the US is the 1.3GHz model. But our Japanese neighbors get the $174 1.86GHz Atom Z540 option. A little pricey but a good option nonetheless seeing that we're stuck with Window's Vista Home Premium for now. Window's 7 couldn't come soon enough.

Anyways as we have said two times before, you're welcome to count the pennies in your piggy bank and head over to SonyStyle.com and pre-order your model. You will have to place down a minimum of $899 for one of these though.

SUPER TALENT RELEASES 16GB / 32GB / 64GB SSD FOR ASUS Eee PC S101

Ah! The sweet smell of more memory never fails to dull our senses.

Apparently Asus knows that and has released three new solid state drives. All of the drives get a maximum write time of 90MB a second and a read time of up to 55MB a second.

The available are FPM16RSE (16GB), FPM32RSE (32GB) and FPM64RSE (64GB).

Oddly enough we're not getting any price details on the two lower models but if you have the bucks for it you can get the 64GB version for $169.

As we previously mentioned these modules are specifically for the Eee PC S101 so we're not sure if they'll work with say your Dell Mini 9 or HP Mini 1000.

ACER PLANS TO OFFER LINUX SSD 10-INCH ASPIRE ONE'S

Acer (like so many companies) didn't seem interested on spilling details of future releases at its 10-inch Aspire One launch party. But reports are coming out that the company does have a Linux and SSD option in mind for its new 10-inch systems.

So far it seems that the only SSD option will be a 16GB. We're not getting any word on the Linux OS that will be offered and as for release date and price, that of course goes null. But we are hearing that the system will be a launched a little after its February bound 10-inch Window's XP Aspire One systems.

SIGN THE PETITION TO RELEASE WINDOW'S 7

Window's 7 has drummed up so much worldwide support that everyone is itching for its release. And when we say a lot of support mean a lot as in all the Apple minded blogs are actually praising Microsoft's latest efforts as a replacement for their much abhor Vista.

Kelly Poe of Nashville TN is one such person and has started a website petitioning Microsoft to get off their butts and release the OS.

Personally I think Microsoft shouldn't rush, even though the beta is good we don't want another Vista fiasco (although Apple is hoping for one).

But if you think its a cool idea to sign the petition than you can view the READ link and lend your hand to the 1,575 petitions already cast.

SAMSUNG LETS LOOSE 4GB DDR3 MEMORY MODULES

Samsung holds quite a few records and this latest one is just as good (or better) than the ones they currently hold. For those who are not interested in buying laptops with DDR2 memory, you should be well aware that the DDR3 models sell for hundreds more. But if you still can't resist having an 8GB DDR3 SO-DIMM in your laptop than Samsung might have you covered in the near future.

Samsung has announced that the new chips that will eventually be available in 32GB DDR3 dram PC models for servers and 8GB DDR3 SO-DIMM models for laptops.

As usual there is no release date or price for that matter. But be assured that when they are released (perhaps by the end of next quarter), you'll be paying some major moola for it.

INTEL RELEASES ALPHA VERSION OF MOBLIN OS

Nearly a year ago we got wind of Intel's new Moblin OS that is supposed to be bundled with its Atom and Core Duo 2 processors. Well the custom Linux build that is based of Fedora is available albeit the Alpha version and can be loaded onto your Acer Aspire One, Dell Mini or Eee PC. That is if you're interested in living without WiFi.

So far things look pretty good but we're ever so skeptical to see how the mass public will take this as Linux netbooks have a 60% higher return rate than their Window's XP counterparts.

In any case, if you're the experimental mind you can go and get your copy and demo it. Just remember that you'll be out of wireless streaming of YouTube as long as Moblin is installed.

You can always wait for the final version that is yet to be announced though.

VAIO P SERIES GETS THE US UNBOXING EXPERIENCE

It wasn't too long ago that we got wind of the much hyped VAIO P series boxing. In a day and age when technology is advancing at an ever alarming rate people seem to be more interested in the plastic paper that carries the device than the device.

If you're one of those people (like myself) than you should be happy that the US version of the VAIO has done its unboxing honors over at HappyAssassin.com.

The device makes the Acer Aspire One look like Goliath and it doesn't help that its a lot thinner than the just mentioned model.

But enough of the chitchat. If you're interested head to the READ link for the full unboxing experience. And if you're not aware Sony is taking pre-orders for this.

ACER FERRARI 1200 ULTRAPORTABLE NOTEBOOK

Acer has announced the Ferrari 1200, an all new ultraportable notebook series, as a successor to its Ferrari 1100. This show stopper series comes in the true spirit of the Italian race car. Well, at least they have tried to bring in some features that is supposed to give you the feel of driving a real Ferrari, like the anodized metal touchpad that resembles the acceleration and brake pedals of a F1 car. Also the Acer Ferrari 1200 has a carbon-fiber cover(this material is actually used in race cars) that is lighter and stronger than magnesium alloy, giving it the ultra portability. Another feature to imitate the race car is an unique ventilation system that supposedly “echoes the exhaust pipes of F1 cars”. To finish off the dressing, it has a tasteful matted finish with soft-touch coating and of course has the strategically placed Ferrari Racing Shield logos.

Now coming to the not so important features, the Acer Ferrari 1200 is driven by the AMD Turion X2 Ultra processor with AMD M780G chipset, and packs up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and includes a 'large capacity' SATA hard drive, Acer InviLink WiFi Certified network connection, Bluetooth connectivity, a biometric fingerprint scanner along with Acer DASP hard drive protection system, an integrated slot-loading DVD SuperMulti optical drive and 2nd generation Dolby Home Theater audio for the ultimate multimedia experience. The Acer Ferrari 1200 sports a 12.1-inch CrystalBrite LCD with LED backlit display, a webcam and comes with an exclusive Bluetooth wireless mouse and an optional Xpress VoIP handset .

There is no word on how much it is going to cost you to drive a Acer Ferrari 1200, but rest assured that it is going to be more than the older model and hopefully you can get hold of one by the first half of 2009.

OLPC 2.0 DUAL SCREEN SHOWS OFF ON CAMERA

Remember that dual screen "computer" that OLPC had announced a while back. Well the reason why we put the "computer" in parenthesis is it currently has not form factor known to man and is closer to a slate than an actual netbook or notebook.

Anyways, the computer has done its thing in the wild and thanks to those ever familiar blurry camera shots that we receive of soon to be released devices, the same thing has happened to it.

From the shot that we're looking at, we're guessing its a NWU (non working unit) but than again its not video so we're not sure. OLPC does seem to have this planned for a release sometime this year though.

WOODEN LAPTOP CASE - MACBOOK GETS A DESIGNER SUIT

When you are a proud owner of a sleek laptop it is only fitting that you dress it up with the best accessories available in the market. And if that laptop is a MacBook then it can only deserve the top notch. Rainer Spehl who is renowned for his wood works, has designed a classy and stylish wooden case just for the MacBook and it perfectly complements all that aluminum and glass. Each case is carved from wood and lined with soft leather to protect your laptops. These wooden cases also have magnetic fasteners that matches the MacBook.

The case looks quite heavy and cannot be termed as ultraportable by any means. Of course this wooden case was not designed for you to throw it in your backpack. This is meant to be a show piece. The wooden cases were especially designed for MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pro and looks like they will not fit the current unibody models. That's unfortunate and hope Spehl comes up with another designer case that can hold these. There is no word on price and customers are asked to contact the creator for one of these, if they are interested. Well, this clearly means that you should expect to see a designer tag on a designer case.

Sotec has announced its new C102 netbook in Japan. The new Sotec C102 will replace its previous model C101. There are very few additions to the new model, the marked difference is that it comes with draft-N WiFi support. You also get a relief from the Hello Kitty logo which the C101 sported on its cover. But who knows, Sotec may decide to release a Hello Kitty special edition of the C102 model. But as of now the C102 looks somewhat more business-like with a platinum silver or rich black cover. Other than these the new Sotec C102 is not much different from its previous models.

The Sotec C102 includes Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, 1GB RAM, Intel 945GSE Express chipset, 160GB SATA hard drive, the new WiFi 802.11 b/g/n Draft 2.0 connectivity, a multiformat memory card reader SD/MS/MMC, three USB 2.0 ports and VGA output. HYPERSPACE INSTANT-ON OS ON ASUS

Well what do you know, the instant-on OS offered by Phoenix Technologies dubbed HyperSpace is making its debut on a few flavors of Asus laptops.

The instant-on OS which is subscription based is perfect for the small side of life. Meaning that half the things that it can do can just as easily be done on your Blackberry, iPhone or WinMo device (taking that you own one of those nightmares).

But if you're in the crowd who doesn't use a Smartphone that this OS might be for you. However we don't think you'll be too happy at the price which is annual and not a one time fee. For those wanting the Hybrid system you will have to fork over $39.95 to satisfy your tastes. If you're interested in bumping it up to Dual than be willing to add another $20 to the previously stated price.

And just in case you're wondering what the hell is HyperSpace OS...than please don't fry your brain and check it out at the READ link.

ACER ASPIRE ONE 10-INCH REVEALS ITSELF IN A COAT OF MANY COLORS

If you're like me you're probably so dizzy from the netbook worldwind that you don't know who is offering what. So if that's the case than I have just one more tiny little guy to add to your problems. The Aspire One 10-inch.

We've been hearing bits of information over the past few weeks and while we have seen a leaked photo here and there we haven't seen this guy bring his full beauty to the table. But thanks to SlashGear we finally can see what it looks like.

The new 10.1-inch Aspire One comes with a 1024 x 600 screen resolution as well as the capacity to hold up to 2GB of RAM. So far from our shots of the system it will be available in four colors: red, white, blue and black. No word on price or availability yet but we do hear that Acer won't be bumping the price on this. Good call Acer Dudes.

APPLE UPDATES $999 MACBOOK'S

Although you have to fork over $1300 for Apple's new entry level MacBook's you still have the option of getting last years model for $999. Only problem (until three days ago) was that it was a little underpowered.

But thanks to a recent update on the Apple Store, looks like Apple might be deciding to keep its sub $1000 notebook just a little while longer. The new updates to the system do not include a reworked design like the new MacBook's but you do get a lot of the hardware performance upgrades such as the new 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo processor that comes with 1066MHz frontend bus, 2GB DDR2-SDRAM (previously 1GB) and of course that integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card that Apple has been making such a stink about in recent months.

Other than that the specs stay the same with the exception of Bluetooth 2.1 which has been updated from the previous 2.0 mark. Anyone interested?

CHERRYPAL BING - CLOUD BASED MINI LAPTOP

CherryPal launched its new netbook at the Colarado's Sundance Film Festival of all places. May be it couldn't make it to the CES or wanted some different setting, who knows, but CherryPal which is well known for its Cloud based nettop has decided to venture into the netbook market with its Bing Netbook which is also Cloud based. CherryPal claims that the Bing is the fastest, most affordable and the least power consuming Intel Atom N270 based netbook on the market.

The CherryPal Bing packs 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270, 1GB of RAM, 160GB of Hard Disk storage capacity, WiFi 802.11b/g connectivity, 3 USB ports, and SD/MMC/MS card slot. It has a 10.2-inch TFT display with 1024 x 600 pixels, widescreen and a 1.3 Megapixel Webcam. The CherryPal Bing runs on the company's exclusive GreenMaraschino Linux Operating System with OpenOffice, Firefox, media software and instant messaging systems like AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Google and Skype. The Bing netbook can also support other Windows OS. Though CherryPal claims a battery life of 5 hours, details on the battery itself is unavailable and it weighs 3lbs.

Although the pricing of the Bing is still unknown, CherryPal has announced a limited time offer of 2 for 1. Yes, now you can pick the Bing along with a CherryPal C114 nettop for a combo price of just $399. The Bing is expected to be shipped in March 2009 while the C114 is available now. The nettop alone is normally priced at $250 and this combo offer is definitely worth watching out for. The CherryPal C114 uses 400MHz Freescale MIPS based processor running a custom version of Xubuntu Linux. Though the C114 does not support Windows, it is compact and performs well with cloud based applications like Zoho Office or Google Docs. To top it all, the CherryPal official site says that, “Coming soon is yet another laptop/netbook, based on a different processor architecture that will provide even more power savings”. Definitely something we can all look forward to.

SONY VAIO P - A VERY GOOD NETBOOK DESIGN BUT VERY EXPENSIVE

SONY VAIO PThe Vaio P is the new series of Sony Netbook that has been presented at the latest 2009 CES, and although some reportes had already filtered images of the product days before its presentation,it has surprised everyone that was present at the presentation of this brilliant product from Sony, for several reasons.

The design of the Vaio P is beautiful, slim, with quality materials, but that if it had some strange things that do not like them so much as the resolutions and its own card formats, but they have 'almost' succeeded what is expected of a Netbook or an ultra-portable, which is mobility - by size and weight, it has far as the Vaio P is less than 700 grams, and I say "almost" because another characteristic of a NETBOOK is its low price and this PC will be available in its basic version, from € 990 and can soar above the € 1,400, according to configuration.

Based on the new Intel Atom Z5 30 AGP and the new Intel 500 with SD card reader and Memory Stick, conventional hard disk or solid state, 1 or 2 GB of RAM, 8 LCD widescreen with 1600 x 768 resolution and LED technology, standard battery (2:45 hours autonomy) or long (5:30 hours ), 0.3 MP webcam with built-in microphone (to kill them, the competition is 1.3 Mp), stereo headphone output and microphone, 802.11abgn WiFi, Bluetooth, WWAN 3G, 2 USB 2.0 ports and a TrackPoint with 3 buttons and the operating system Windows Vista (Basic or Premium). Includes GPS, something quite rare in laptops but in the case of the latter is twice as useful.

ACER ASPIRE ONE WITH WINDOWS XP

ACER ASPIRE ONE It is very strange the behavior that various manufacturers are having with their ranges of ultraportable netbooks. It was the moment that really has become popular Linux computers for the consumer all over the worl, but it also tends not to stand to play with them.

Acer has a very important step for Aspire One releasing the necessary drivers to install Windows XP on your NETBOOK that comes with Linux. This is important because usually choosing an operating system on a notebook PC often assumed to have no more than one configuration of choice.

With this step of Acer, the buyer of the cheaper version of the Acer Aspire One, that can be found for very cheap prices, can install Windows XP if you want and have the support of the drivers own brand. Because the constraints are removed.

There is also an update to the computer's BIOS that can be downloaded from the web.

NEW NETBOOK FROM HP: THE HP MINI 1000

HP MINI 1000HP has just officially announced a new NETBOOK (an ultraportable PC, light and small), the HP Mini 1000.

While HP had already entered the market with the HP 2133 Mini Note, this brings new NETBOOK interesting developments, including:

1.Intel Atom 1.6 GHz
2.Screen: 8.9 or 10.2, both with 1024 x 600 resolution
3.MIE (Mobile Internet Experience) and
4.Price: from $ 400 (Windows version, screen 8.9 ")

As for hardware, now HP VIA processors are made by Intel, and there are no major differences to other netbooks (like My Acer Aspire One, for example).

However, what stands out instantly from the 1000 Mini is finished, as is the Mininote, the 1000 Mini is elegant, less like a toy syndrome who suffer most netbooks.

Most interesting, however, is WED. Mobile Internet Experience, is an operating system Ubuntu is a modification made by HP that basically makes us the most common tasks and everything you need in one screen what can be counted as very positive feature for this new netbook.

However,it does not bring many new features, and performance is almost identical to the rest of netbooks today. But hey, it's a sign that it is a good time to buy one, because basically, all models offer the same. The decision, ultimately, is more like us, aesthetically speaking.

If they want something new, or still are not convinced by the current state of netbooks, will have to wait until early next year, Asus seems to have us where surprises.

PACKARD BELL DOT , A FAMILY NETBOOK

PACKARD BELL DOTA NETBOOK is not just a small computer to work, it is also a good tool to perform basic household tasks, for which the use a laptop is too bulky but for a computer that falls short of pocket.

With this philosophy, the manufacturer Packard Bell has designed the new equipment called "Dot".

This is a NETBOOK with 8.9-inch screen and a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.
It weighs 1.25 kg and has a size of 253 x 189 x 39 mm.It also works with an Intel Atom processor, and this new family purpose netbook has 1 GB of RAM and hard drive has a capacity of 160 Gb

As for the rest of its features, has three USB ports (enough for many), a card reader 5 in 1, and an integrated webcam.

In addition, uses wireless technology WiFi b / g and, optionally, can be completed with a module for 3G connections.

The operating system of this NETBOOK Packard Bell is Windows XP and comes with a price of 350 €.

All in all ,I can recommend this netbook if you are in need for a "laptop" ( saying laptop because netbook is a series of laptops) that can hold your household data ,and I can freely say that it can be used also for other normal purposes that other netbooks have.

HP BLUETOOTH LASER MOBILE MOUSE – HDX SERIES

HP has launched a sleek and stylish wireless computer mouse featuring wireless connectivity via Bluetooth technology. With its look and name the HP Bluetooth Laser Mouse has been probably released to match its high end Pavilion HDX entertainment notebook. This wireless mouse uses laser technology for precise tracking and can be used on any surface, well actually it claims that it can work on more surfaces than an optical mouse. You also have an option to switch between 800 and 1600 dpi using its adjustable DPI functionality to achieve optimum performance.

The HP Bluetooth Laser mouse is powered by two AA batteries and can save energy with the standby and sleep mode features. It works with Windows XP and Vista operating systems but you need to install the included software first. You also have an option to personalize your HP mouse with two different colors and comes with a travel pouch. The HP Bluetooth Laser Mobile Mouse is available at the online HP store for $47.99 after rebate.

ACER ASPIRE ONE 103 IN PICTURES

Acer's 10-inch Aspire One has been rolling in the rumor mill for sometime and now we have some pictures to look at and speculate. The most noticeable feature of the Aspire One 103 is layout of the trackpad. It appears that Acer has listened well to its customer reviews and has revised the trackpad layout by placing the left and right mouse buttons neatly under the trackpad where it should rightfully belong. Also the Aspire One 103 is a multitouch model, all prepped up for Windows 7.

Acer has also made upgrading easier in the Aspire One 103 by providing access to the HDD, RAM and the wireless card. Apart from this the Acer Aspire One 103 is a standard Acer issue that includes Intel Atom 1.6 GHz N280/N270, 1GB of RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, multitouch touchpad, only one SDHC card slot, 3 USB ports, an optional 3G and webcam. It has a 10-inch display and comes preloaded with Windows XP. The Aspire One 103 is speculated to be released in February and available in red, black and white for about $399.

HP MIGHT BE BRINGING NEW MINI-NOTES TO PLAY

Its not been a good week since HP updated the Mini-Note 2133 with the Mini 2140. But according to DigiTimes it would seem that the company behind one of the best netbooks to be released is thinking about outdoing themselves.

According to DigiTimes a new WWAN-enabled Mini-note 2150 would be released in early June and would feature a 13.3-inch screen. There is also talk of an 11.6-inch model. Both models would run Intel's Atom processor.

As we said before, this is just a rumor and should be taking with a spoon of salt seeing that many of DigiTimes informers do not have all screws tightened.

ASUS 16-INCH F50 AND F70 LAPTOPS

Most people wouldn't believe that Asus can actually manufacturer something other than a tiny plastic netbook. But alas they can and in case you have not noticed, those famous Lamborghini laptops floating around the place are the work of their hands.

But not everyone has money for such an expensive system so you're welcome to try their new line of notebooks. The F50 comes in 16 inch flavors and the F70 comes in 17-inch flavors.

The systems sport full HD 1080p panels as well as HDMI ports and a "Chocolate keyboard." There's also one of those instant on OS which allows you to do certain basic tasks without waiting a year and a day for Vista to boot. HDD space can go up to 1TB and of course you have the option for a Blu-Ray drive. System RAM can be maxed out at 4GB DDR2 and you get an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G graphics card.

1.3 megapixel webcam and Bluetooth 2.0 as well as 802.11b/g/n all make it onto the device.

So far Asus is keeping a tight lip on pricing and release date, but we wouldn't be surprised if we see these out before the end of March.

DELL INSPIRON 15 UP FOR ORDERING PLEASURE

EKING M1 MID

This is one more product that made a brief appearance last summer at the Intel Developer Forum IDF and then went into hibernation. Though it appeared as Wibrain M1 MID at the IDF, now it has resurfaced under another brand name as the EKING M1 MID and is getting all prepped up to be released by the Chinese company M1.

This sleek and stylish slider-type model weighs 1.2 pound and measures 7.6 x 3.2 x 1.1 inches. The EKING M1 MID packs a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, Bluetooth, GPS connectivity and WiFi 802.11b/g. It has a 4.8-inch touchscreen display running at 1024 x 600 and has impressive connectivity with mobile WiMAX, HSDPA and also a Digital TV tuner. The EKING M1 MID also sports a 1.3 megapixel webcam and in addition to the touchscreen it also has a touchpad and a handwriting recognition feature. It also has a full QWERTY keyboard, a mouse and comes preloaded with Windows XP.

Though full specifications have not been announced officially, it is speculated to have up to 1GB of RAM and a solid state storage. The pricing and release date are still unknown.

ARCHOS 10 NETBOOK

You might, or might not be aware that Archos is actually a company and not a stupid little France name. But in case you didn't know about them, they are the makers of those 5 and 7 inch PMP's with Opera pre installed that you might have heard about.

But they're not just interested about focusing their energy on handheld PMP's and have decided to make a netbook which is their biggest product to date.

The $399 netbook comes with XP preinstalled, 1GB RAM, Atom N270 processor, 802.11b/g WiFi, 1.3 megapixel camera and of course a ten inch screen. The entire package weighs in at just under 3 pounds (2.8 to be exact), and also comes with $100 worth of multimedia and productivity software. You also get a $50 credit towards the Archos Media Club which allows you to download movies and television shows via their website.

There is also an option for a Free V-Tuner player that allows you to stream thousands of web TV channels and over 10,000 radio stations and your daily digest of podcasts.

Our first impressions is that this netbook stands out of the crowd for value. While it might not carry some category bending performance specs it still breaks free of the netbook crowd thanks to its software offerings.

So you're in love with the MacBook Pro 17-inch but the only thing stopping both of you from holy matrimony is that little thing called the integrated battery. Well we've got some details on the whole integrated battery thing that should shed some light on it and help you make up your mind whether you are right for each other.
